India’s First Private SiC Semiconductor Fab to Be Established in Andhra Pradesh

Indichip Semiconductors Limited and Japan’s Yitoa Micro Technology Limited (YMTL) have signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh government to establish India's first private silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor manufacturing facility. With a staggering investment of over ₹14,000 crore, this groundbreaking facility will be anchored in the Orvakal Mega Industrial Hub, Kurnool.

Key details:

▪️ Production Capacity: The facility will commence with an initial output of 10,000 SiC wafers per month, with plans to scale up to an impressive 50,000 wafers per month within the next 2-3 years.

▪️ Focus Areas: The facility will concentrate on energy-efficient technologies, electric vehicles (EVs), and renewable energy solutions, paving the way for a greener future.

▪️ Government Support: The Andhra Pradesh government, under its recently launched semiconductor policy (November 2024), is supporting this venture with land allocation and robust infrastructure development.

“This investment aligns perfectly with Andhra Pradesh’s vision to become a global semiconductor hub, creating thousands of jobs and fostering innovation,” remarked Industries Minister T.G. Bharath.

This monumental project not only underscores India's Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission, advancing self-reliance in semiconductor manufacturing, but also highlights Andhra Pradesh’s growing appeal as a destination for cutting-edge industries.

Imagine a future where India stands tall on the global semiconductor map, driving sustainability, technological growth, and a revolution in energy-efficient solutions. This facility is more than just an industrial achievement; it's a beacon of hope and a testament to India's relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence.

Inspiration in Every Wafer:

  • Job Creation: Thousands of direct and indirect jobs will be created, transforming lives and fostering economic growth in the region.

  • Innovation Hub: This facility will serve as a cornerstone for research and development in advanced technology, pushing the boundaries of what's possible.

  • Climate Conscious: By focusing on EVs and renewable energy, this venture contributes significantly to India’s climate goals and sustainable future.

This collaboration is a shining example of what can be achieved when vision meets action. Let's celebrate this remarkable milestone and look forward to a future brimming with possibilities, courtesy of the unwavering spirit of innovation and self-reliance.
